DICOM imaging standard
We support imaging review through Care Radiology, which keeps study records, image and DICOM file attachments, a browser viewer and radiologist reports. Connections to modalities or a PACS are scoped separately.
Subject type: technical format. DICOM is the standard for medical imaging files and exchange. This page states what Care does with DICOM and what a compatibility assessment has to cover.
What is built
- A radiology order has a study record with an accession number, the modality and the DICOM study identifier.
- A technologist attaches images or DICOM files to the study. Other file types are refused.
- DICOM files open in a browser viewer with window level, zoom and pan, and slice scrolling.
- A radiologist records findings, an impression and recommendations, and the report moves from draft to final or amended.
What is not in the confirmed scope
DICOM network exchange with modalities or a PACS, including a modality worklist, is not part of the confirmed scope. Radiation dose records and structured reports are not claimed. No universal device compatibility or complete DICOM service coverage is claimed, and conformance details such as supported SOP classes are not published on this page.
Illustrative example: a study from order to report
This example uses synthetic data. A clinician orders a chest study for a synthetic patient, Khalid Mansour. The technologist records the accession number and modality, then attaches the DICOM files. The radiologist opens them in the viewer, writes the report and the report is verified. If a file is not an image or a DICOM file, it is refused when attached. If a DICOM file cannot be read, the viewer shows an error state. Test studies from your own equipment before go-live.
Compatibility assessment
Bring the modalities, the way images reach your radiology team today and any PACS you use. We will review how those files would reach Care and agree the exact version, data scope and operational responsibility before implementation.

What we claim, precisely
The system holds the evidence; the facility's accountable person attests. Nothing here asserts that a facility is compliant.
Common questions
-
No universal device compatibility is claimed. Review the actual modality, PACS and required imaging services, and test the agreed workflow before treating a device connection as operational.
-
DICOM network exchange with modalities or a PACS is not part of the confirmed scope. Images and DICOM files are attached to a study in Care. Confirm how images reach Care for your modalities before scoping.
-
A file that is not an image or a DICOM file is refused when it is attached. If a DICOM file cannot be read, the viewer shows an error state. Test representative studies from your own equipment before go-live.
