Outpatient Management
Help each outpatient visit move to the next step
NextHealth CareIncluded in all three Care plans; connected services depend on enabled modules.
NXH Care outpatient tools carry a visit from arrival to checkout in one record. Reception checks the patient in and issues a queue token, nursing records triage where the facility runs it, and the doctor documents the consultation, orders and prescriptions. Each team can see which step the patient has reached, how long they have been there and the room, and follow-up can be booked from the consultation. Orders, prescriptions and billing attach to the same visit.

What your team can do

- Call patients to triage and to the doctor from queues, with the room shown.
- Show how long each patient has been in their current step.
- Record the consultation, orders and prescriptions in the same visit.
- Book a follow-up from the consultation plan, or register a walk-in at the desk.
- Report waiting time by stage, doctor and department.
Keep the outpatient visit connected across your team
An outpatient visit passes from reception to nursing, to the doctor and then to checkout. Each handover is a point where the next person has to find out what was already done.
Who holds the patient at each step
The check-in board has four columns: arrived, checked in, in triage and consultation, and checkout. Each patient card shows its step, the room where known, and how many minutes the patient has been in that step, which turns red after 30 minutes. Reception checks the patient in against identity, payer and consent checks and issues a queue token. Nursing calls the patient for vitals where the facility runs triage first. The doctor calls the token and documents the visit. Orders, prescriptions and billing attach to the same visit record.
How waiting time is measured
- Vitals wait: from check-in until the nursing station calls the patient. It applies only where the facility runs vitals-first triage.
- Doctor wait: from the end of vitals, or from check-in when there is no triage, until the doctor calls the patient.
- Checkout wait: from signing the consultation until reception completes the visit. It applies only where OPD checkout is switched on.
- Total wait: the three added together. Time spent being served is not counted as waiting.
Each wait is stored with the visit when the next step happens, so figures do not change afterwards. The waiting time report breaks them down by stage, doctor and department.
Linked services
Laboratory, radiology, claims and approvals are included in Care Clinics Pro and Care Hospitals. If your outpatient service depends on them, review that plan alongside the core outpatient workflow.
Illustrative example: a booked follow-up and a walk-in
This example uses synthetic data. Dr Hana Mourad, a made-up doctor, finishes a consultation with a synthetic patient, Sami Darwish, and books a follow-up from the plan tab, so the review is not left as a note. On the day, reception marks Sami as arrived, completes the check-in checklist and issues a token. A second synthetic patient, Lina Faris, arrives with no booking. Reception uses the walk-in button, searches for her record, picks a doctor and confirms. She is checked in at once and joins the same queue with her own token.

-
Yes. Reception uses the walk-in button, finds or registers the patient and picks the doctor. The walk-in is checked in at once and joins the queue with a token. A nurse-led visit that needs no doctor can queue straight to the nursing station.
