Emergency

Run the emergency department from one board

NextHealth Care

Included in Care Hospitals.

NXH Care emergency tools follow each patient from arrival to departure on one department board. Reception registers an existing patient, a quick registration or an unidentified arrival, with the arrival mode and referral source. Nurses record triage on a five-level scale, CTAS or ESI as the facility sets, and re-triage as care goes on. Doctors pick up the patient, record a primary survey and the course in the department, and decide the disposition, with an SBAR handover when the patient is admitted.

Follow the patient from arrival to departure

  1. Step 1

    Arrive

Register the patient, named or unidentified

  2. Step 2

    Triage

Record the level, pain and vital signs

  3. Step 3

    Treat

A doctor picks up and records the course

  4. Step 4

    Decide

    Discharge, admit, transfer or observe

  5. Step 5

    Depart

Hand over and close the visit

What your team can do

  • Register an existing patient, a quick registration or an unidentified arrival, with arrival mode and referral source.
  • Record triage on a five-level scale, CTAS or ESI, with pain, vital signs and every re-triage kept.
  • Track each patient on the department board by bay, stream and status, with fast track from a level you set.
  • Stamp the time a doctor first picks up the patient, beside the arrival and triage times.
  • Record a primary survey and the course in the department, with orders and prescriptions in the shared encounter.
  • Close the visit as discharged, admitted with an SBAR handover, transferred, left without being seen, left against advice or deceased.

See the whole department at once

An emergency department runs on one question: who is waiting, for what, and for how long. In NXH Care every visit sits on the department board with its bay, stream, triage level and status, from waiting for triage through treatment and observation to departure.

Arrival and identity

Reception registers an existing patient, a quick registration, or an unidentified arrival under an alias with an estimated age. When the person is identified, a user with permission to merge patients moves the visit into the existing record, and the merge records a reason and who made it.

Triage and timing

The facility chooses CTAS or ESI as its scale and sets the level from which patients go to fast track. Nurses record the level, pain, vital signs and notes, and each re-triage is kept beside the first. Care records the level the nurse decides; it does not calculate one. The time a doctor first picks up the patient is stamped once, so arrival, triage and first contact can be reviewed together.

Disposition and admission

A visit ends as discharged, admitted, transferred, left without being seen, left against advice or deceased. An admission needs an inpatient department and an SBAR handover, which the ward then sees on the inpatient chart. Orders, results and prescriptions use the shared clinical workspace, and the attendance is billed from the encounter.

What this module needs

Emergency is included in Care Hospitals, where admission from the department uses Inpatients and beds. A transfer is recorded with its destination; Care does not book the receiving facility.

Illustrative example: one arrival, from triage to admission

This example uses synthetic data.

A man arrives by ambulance without identification and is registered under an alias with an estimated age. The triage nurse records level 2, his pain score and vital signs, and he appears on the board waiting for a doctor. A doctor picks him up, records a primary survey and orders tests from the encounter. His family arrives with his Emirates ID, and the visit is merged into his existing record. The doctor decides to admit him, completes the SBAR handover and chooses the medical ward, where the handover is waiting on his inpatient chart.

Common questions

  • Emergency is included in Care Hospitals. Admitting a patient from the department uses Inpatients and beds, which is part of the same plan.

  • Yes. An unidentified arrival is registered under an alias with an estimated age. When the person is identified, a user with permission to merge patients moves the visit into the existing record, and the merge records a reason and who made it.

  • No. The nurse decides the level on a five-level scale, CTAS or ESI as the facility sets, and Care records it with pain, vital signs and any re-triage. The facility also sets the level from which patients go to fast track.

  • The doctor chooses an inpatient department and completes an SBAR handover. Care creates the admission and shows the handover on the inpatient chart, so the ward sees why the patient came up.
