Staff Messaging

Keep everyday team conversations close to the work

NextHealth Care

Included in all three Care plans.

NXH Care staff messaging keeps team conversations inside the clinical platform. Colleagues can message each other directly or use channels for a department or team, and a channel can be pinned to a patient so it links to their record. Unread conversations are counted in the sidebar. Messaging is for coordination: clinical decisions belong in the record, and an unread count is not an acknowledgement or an emergency alert, so urgent situations follow your facility’s procedures.

What your team can do

  • Message any colleague in the group directly.
  • Create channels for a department or team, with the department’s assigned staff added.
  • Pin a channel to a patient so it links to the record.
  • Search the conversation list by name.
  • See unread conversation counts in the sidebar.

Give your team a shared place to talk

A short conversation can hold information a colleague needs later. Staff need to know where to send a message and how to get back to the patient it concerns.

What belongs in messaging

NXH Care keeps one direct conversation between any two colleagues in the group, and named channels for a department or team. Choosing a department adds its assigned staff. Use messaging for coordination, such as who covers a list, whether a room is ready or a question for a colleague. Clinical decisions, orders and findings belong in the patient’s record, not in chat.

Getting back to the record

A channel can be pinned to a patient when it is created. The pin shows the patient’s name and MRN and links to the record, so colleagues know who the conversation is about without retyping details.

Limits to plan for

  • Unread messages show as a count beside Messages in the sidebar. That count is a convenience. It is not a record that a colleague has read or acted on a message, and it is not an emergency alert. Use your facility’s urgent-response procedure for anything time critical.
  • Search finds conversations by the name shown in the list. It does not search the text of messages.
  • Messages cannot be edited or deleted. People see only the conversations they belong to, and messaging does not cross to another group.
  • A retention period for messages is not described here. Agree it with the team before go-live.

Common questions

  • Staff messaging is included in Care Clinics, Care Clinics Pro and Care Hospitals. The module is part of the shared clinical foundation in every Care plan.

  • Yes. Staff can use channels for a department or team, as well as direct messages to individual colleagues within Care.

  • Staff search the conversation list by name and open the thread to read it. Search does not look inside message text. Unread counts in the sidebar show new activity.

  • No. Treat messaging as team communication. Continue to use the clinical documentation workflow for the signed patient record and your facility’s procedures for urgent situations.

  • No. An unread count is not an acknowledgement and does not escalate. Follow your facility’s urgent-response procedure for anything time critical.

  • People see only the conversations they belong to, and messaging does not cross to another group. Messages cannot be edited or deleted. Agree a retention period with the team before go-live.
