JCI FMS International Accreditation and licensing Supporting records for review

JCI Facility Management and Safety

We support facility reviews with asset schedules, calibration records and inspection evidence, helping your team examine equipment and premises issues and follow-up work.

Set by Joint Commission International

What this is

JCI Facility Management and Safety (FMS) is a chapter of the Joint Commission International accreditation standards. It covers how a facility manages its premises, equipment and safety risks. Requirements differ by edition, and the facility agrees the programme and edition with JCI.

What is built

  • Assets and equipment holds maintenance schedules and calibration records.
  • Equipment records include relevant contract and stock information.
  • Facility inspections retain visit findings, photographs and room evidence.

What a reviewer can inspect

A reviewer can inspect an equipment record, its recorded service information and the premises findings relevant to the review. Photographs help explain an observed condition, but a stored image or scheduled task does not prove that a repair was completed or that a facility is safe.

Illustrative example: an asset and an inspection finding

This example uses synthetic data.

A synthetic infusion pump has a record with its service schedule and a calibration entry. During a synthetic ward inspection, the inspector records a finding about a damaged power lead, with a photograph and the room. A reviewer opens the equipment record and the inspection finding side by side, then asks the responsible biomedical team what was done and when. The records show what was written down; the team shows what was done.

Boundaries

Recorded maintenance evidence does not by itself establish safe operation, completed repairs or accreditation acceptance. Specialist testing, competent-person inspections and organisational approvals remain separate responsibilities. No facility safety certification or complete JCI FMS assessment is claimed. The facility confirms the programme and edition it is assessed against.

What we claim, precisely

The system holds the evidence; the facility's accountable person attests. Nothing here asserts that a facility is compliant.

Common questions

  • No. Schedules and records help organise review, but safety depends on the actual equipment, completed work and appropriate assessment. Your team must examine the supporting service evidence.

  • It shows the findings, photographs and room evidence recorded at a visit. It does not show that a repair was done correctly or that the area is safe; your team confirms that through the follow-up work.

  • Your facility’s accountable person reviews and attests to the evidence. The software holds the described records; it does not replace professional judgement or the relevant assessment and approval process.
